Since the time that Covid-19 pandemic hit globally, everyone has been talking about it. The news is everywhere on social media and news channels while families discuss it over the dinner table. It's pretty scary! Right?

And If you are like me, and have been following the news channels and watching the virus dominating the world, you must be worried.

In early coronavirus outbreaks, scary coronavirus stories popped up every other minute and made all of us wonder how we would survive this disaster? How long will it stay? And what happens if I or any of my family members get sick or worse?

No doubt, all of these fears cause anxiety and depression to not all but at least to most of us. But here are a few tips to get through hard times.

  • You first need not panic and stay calm.

  • Next, do follow SOPS like wearing a face mask in public, using sanitizer, washing your hands, and maintaining social distancing etc.

  • Lastly, you should have a survival kit or bag that contains all the essential survival gear and first aid that will help you in an emergency; and for now, that emergency is coronavirus.

In case you don't know what you should or shouldn't have in your go-bag, no problem! I have come up with a new survival bag that contains all the essential gear to get you through the pandemic.

With that said, I am also going to discuss some common old mistakes that many of us have made in the past during the global pandemics, because of which the situation became worse. These mistakes should not be repeated again to reduce the risk.

Change behaviour to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

Rule-breaking would cost someone's life. Yes, if you are showing reckless behaviour or not following SOPs properly while going out, it may increase the spread of the disease. There is a saying, "Humanity should unite to beat coronavirus".

So, what should be done to reduce the risk of the virus? Here are some guidelines to follow.

  • To prevent person to person transmission of the virus, consider social distancing as people can spread the disease even before they know. Hence, it's best always to maintain a 6-feet distance from others.

  • Minimize unnecessary traveling. Don't go outside if it's not necessary. Go only when it is essential such as for grocery, to seek medical help or for work.

  • Surgical/cloth face masks are important to wear while going out for any reason and even for indoor gatherings.

  • Generally, avoid large gatherings during the Covid-19 pandemic. But if you have to go to some family gathering, then always maintain a 1-meter distance from the guests and don't forget to wear face masks, gloves (if possible) and sanitize your hand every few minutes.

  • Disinfect the venue before and after the gatherings. On your way back home, wash your hands with soap to kill possible germs.

  • Stay at home and maintain hygiene by cleaning surfaces by mixing sanitizer in a household cleaner.

  • Only allow visitors to your home wearing face masks and ask them to sanitize their hands after washing them with soap.

  • Clean your hands often with soap when at home, and use hand sanitizer if you are on the go. Avoid the custom of shaking hands when meeting someone.

Following all the above guidelines is very important in limiting the spread of the virus. But what's more important is going out less for shopping and preparing more for any emergency during the Covid-19 pandemic. But, what are the things needed to stay prepared? it's always good to include food supplements in your survival kit for well being.

Stop stressing yourself or running for things you need to survive a pandemic. I have listed for you some survival gears you needed the most to get through the pandemic. You just sit back, relax and read.

Things you need

Here’s how to do it:

Frankly, the most essential stuff you need is food, water and a warm place to sleep like a tent. But, at the same time, it's also good to have some other supplies on your emergency list. These are as follows.

  • Face mask- The government emphasis is wearing any mask that covers your nose and mouth. As most of the time, viruses spread through sneezing, coughing or talking to a person in close contact.

Additionally, wearing the mask protects you from getting the disease and protects others in case you are carrying the virus.

  • Food Supplements- Besides having dried food with you, Especially during a pandemic, consuming a good diet is very important.

  • Supplements contain nutrients like vitamins and minerals that are very important to stay healthy. Moreover, it is recommended to take vitamin C and D. The intake of these vitamins is highlighted as beneficial for people with nutrient deficiency.

Remember to always take dietary supplements after consulting your doctor.

  • Water Filter/purifier- We can survive without food for at least three weeks, but that's not the case with water. A person only survives a week without water, and honestly, maybe only three or four days.

Having a water system with you is extremely important when on survival, instead of buying a bunch of bottles and creating a lot of plastic waste, consider buying a water filter. It's nice to pour water that is clean and safe for you and your family.

Basically, a water filter is capable of killing 99% of harmful viruses and bacteria. Moreover, they are cheap, light in weight and take up less space in your pack.

  • Gloves-The most crucial gear in any survival bag are gloves. As you touch many surfaces in your daily life, Coronavirus spreads through contact either with a person or touching any surface. If you are home, it could be things like door handles, your phone, pen or pencil, utensils, Tv remote, computer etc.

Whereas the list becomes longer when you go outside, for example, elevator buttons, ATMs, gas pumps etc. More people are touching the surfaces you are touching.

More surfaces mean more chances of getting Coronavirus. It is always safe to wear gloves when going out or meeting a stranger.

  • Hand sanitizers- In case you are barehanded and touched a surface in public. Immediately use hand sanitizer; it acts quickly and kills microorganisms that are not visible to naked eyes.

Hand sanitizers also reduce the bacterial count, are more accessible and less irritating for the skin. It is the best substitute for soap and water.

  • Soap- Frequently washing your hands and maintaining proper hand hygiene is one of the measures that we can all use to prevent coronavirus infection. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Following this technique will help reduce microbes.

  • Disinfectant Wipes- Remove the virus on surfaces by cleaning them with disinfectant wipes to ensure protection even at home.

  • First-Aid Box- You better have a first-aid kit in your survival bag that might contain some basic supplies like

  1. Elastic wrap bandages

  2. Antibacterial ointment and pain killers

  3. Instant cold packs

  4. Roller gauze and non-stick sterile bandages

  5. Large Triangular bandage

  6. Petroleum jelly or other lubricants

  7. Thermometer

  8. Hydrogen peroxide to disinfect

  9. Syringe, medicine cup, or you can use a spoon.

  10. First-Aid Manual

These are all the basic list of supplies one needs for surviving a pandemic or any other disaster. But, that does not mean hoard for these supplies or run for the hills. Instead, have a bag or a kit with a limited amount of all these supplies that are needed for survival.

If you are thinking, is there any survival bag that contains all the survival essentials? Well;

Good news: Luckily, there is! I can tell you of a bag that includes all these survival gears essential to get through a pandemic. You just have to buy it and stay prepared for any emergency.

Despite going out to shop for every single gear, assemble it on your own and look for a bag that is light in weight and has enough space to include all the stuff.

It is easier to go and get a bag that already has all these survival gear and is light in weight as it sits simply in the corner of your room to grab in any case of emergency. Sounds perfect!
